UK Distributors & Collections
There are a range of distributors and collections in the UK of artists' film and video work. These vary widely in the work they collect and the accessibility of the work they hold. There are different sets of requirements when approaching these different organisations. In the UK there isn't a singular collection of British artists' film and video work but rather a "dispersed national collection" that spans many organisations and institutions.

UK Film, Video Distributors & Collections

These key organisations vary from specialist distributors of artists' film and video work to archives that hold artists' work amongst thousands of other titles.

    Founded in 2002, LUX is a distributor based on the collections of its predecessors, the Lux Centre, London Filmmakers Co-op and London Electronic Arts/London Video Arts. Distributes UK and international experimental film and video art. They distribute over 4,000 titles listed on their comprehensive online catalogue.

    Formed in 1991 from the merger of two feminist distributors, Circles and Cinema of Women, Cinenova is dedicated to distributing films and videos made by women. Cinenova distributes a range of work including experimental films, narrative feature films, artists film and video, documentary and educational videos.

    Concord is an educational charity that distributes a range of material as well as distributing programmes produced by the Arts Council which include documentaries on artists as well as a selection of artists' work.

    The British Film Institute distributes a wide range of work and houses the BFI National Archive, one of the world’s biggest collections of film, video and television. The archive stores a vast amount of material, the large majority of which is not in formal distribution. The BFI has published a series of guides to its archive that can help you navigate its collection. They also run a comprehensive enquiry service to help you find out what about material in their collection and the rights that they have to it.

As well as the BFI National Archive there are a range of film and video archives throughout the UK. Each has separate access and loan policies so be sure to consult them in advance if you plan to exhibit work from their archive.
